Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream, warmed
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt, or to taste

Instructions

Step 1

Combine butter and sugar in a large saucepan or pot over medium heat.

Step 2

Let mixture melt and come to a simmer, stirring gently until the butter is melted and sugar dissolved.

Step 3

Allow mixture to cook until the color is deep golden brown, occasionally swirling the pan or giving a gentle stir to prevent the sugar from burning. Try to avoid stirring too much to ensure the sugar doesn’t crystallize.

Step 4

Remove from heat and slowly pour in warmed heavy cream. Place the pan back over low heat and continue to stir until mixture is smooth and thickened.

Step 5

Stir in vanilla and salt to taste and serve over ice cream or your favorite dessert!
